We have been delighted to have Queens University law students Gemma Quigg and Charlie Flack in the office with us over the last number of months. We also recently welcomed Rachel Kane to the team as Operations Executive to help drive the business forward in a sustainable way. See more about their thoughts and experiences during their time with Turley Legal to date here:

Gemma Quigg

I am currently a law student at Queens University Belfast. Since February, I have been working at Turley Legal, which has been highly beneficial throughout my studies. The team at Turley Legal have been very supportive throughout my degree by giving me advice and offering me time off to complete my end of year examinations. Working at Turley Legal has given me valuable experience in a professional environment.  I have gained experience with clients and businesses and developed communication skills and commercial awareness.

My time at Turley Legal has allowed me to learn about an area of law that was new to me. In fact, it has influenced my module choices for the final year of my degree.  I have chosen to study company law and corporate governance as well as business human rights.

I have enjoyed working at a smaller, local firm with a very high-profile client base. It has provided a better environment for learning. The team is extremely helpful and always happy to answer any questions that I may have, allowing me to understand my work better. The friendly, relaxed working environment means that I have enjoyed my time working at Turley Legal. I will continue working here throughout the academic year as working at a smaller firm has benefited from more flexible working hours, allowing me to work at Turley Legal alongside my studies and my other part-time job.

Charlie Flack

As a law student, working at Turley Legal has been hugely beneficial for me in several ways, including the ability to work alongside my studies, develop my interpersonal and technical skills, and work alongside industry experts.

Flexible working practices have allowed me to work manageable hours that I can fit alongside my studies. The team are accommodating and supportive when it comes to taking time off for exams, other part-time work, or further career opportunities.

The excellent quality of work at Turley Legal has provided me with opportunities to develop my research skills and commercial awareness, as well as the opportunity to gain an insight into a range of different clients and understand their needs. Such experience has given me a strong sense of delivering responsive, accurate and detail-oriented legal solutions to complex commercial issues.

It has been rewarding to experience a local law firm with exposure to high-quality work, that you might expect to be reserved for traditional city law firms. Furthermore, the inclusive, relaxed and supportive working culture has allowed me to develop my confidence, ask questions and develop my skills in a professional environment beyond what I thought would be available to me at this stage.

Rachel Kane

I joined Turley Legal in August 2021. I was delighted to get a role with a local North Coast company after moving from Belfast to Portrush in 2018.

I graduated from the University of Ulster, Coleraine, in 2015 with a First-Class Degree in Business Management.  I also completed a year's work placement in HR at the Europa Hotel. Once I graduated, I was lucky enough to land my first graduate job at GOLFNOW, based in Belfast. This was a great opportunity, and it is where I fostered an understanding of a lot of the skills I use today. During my four years there, I worked in both the operations and business support areas. I later moved to a more client-facing role as a Client Support Specialist with Baker McKenzie. I worked here for around eight months before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit in early 2020 when we were all forced to work from home – I did not miss the 120-mile round trip commute every day!

I didn't want to go back to the Belfast daily commute and was determined to maintain a work from home role or find a company that was close-by. Many people have realised, especially over the last 18 months, that work-life balance and flexibility is one, if not the most important aspect of a role. Luckily, I have found this at Turley Legal, which promotes a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and culture. I was also excited about joining a new company.  I could see an excellent opportunity to shape the role and become heavily involved in HR and recruitment strategies, developing an enviable culture, and streamlining internal business processes. I enjoy working somewhere where I know everyone I am working with. It's also important for me to be involved with multiple business areas from an early stage, and I see the role growing with the business over the next number of years.

We wish Charlie and Gemma all the best as they return to university for their studies.  We are delighted to have secured someone of Rachel's calibre and experience in what we see as a vital role in the business's development going forward.

We are continuing to grow to meet client demands and currently have two open roles. You can find out more information via the recruitment section of our website – www.turley.legal.
